Wherever air is sinking, cloud cannot form must have rising air air must sink to keep the system sustained, so must have areas of sinking air where we don"t have rain. Names were exhausted for the first time ever in 2005 when 27 hurricanes occurred. The final 6 hurricanes that year were named after the first 6 greek letters. Hurricane movement hurricanes typically travel very slowly ( < 20 km/h) we can track them, days of warning because wind in a hurricane rotates counterclockwise, wind speed varies over area of the hurricane. Watch out: most devastating component of a hurricane or devastating effect of a hurricane two diff things: component = eye, effect = storm surge. It is the most devastating effect of hurricanes it results from powerful winds creating an abnormal rise in sea level. Hurricane andrew (1992): 23 ft. storm surges were reported in florida.
