We live inside codes, use them to communicate, connect, distinguish: we are naturally most comfortable with the codes that are already second nature to us. The most important code we inhabit is language. Poetry is the furnace room where language is tested, remade, contorted, reset and fiddled with. To watch a hypothetical narrative unfold engages us, we become stuck to watch and see how it unfolds. We see a process that unfolds, its meaning and importance lies in how it unfolds. The warfare metaphor: you gain ground and defend ground in order to reach a goal. > they make us feel something, stimulate us. Language in particular uses draws us in with their effects. Poems are subjective experiences, my interpretation is an opinion, all interpretations are relative. Reader"s anxiety about being right in relation to an experience he has no confidence in.
