Culture is not good or bad : purpose is to understand the cultural and historical context of cultural practices cultural texts, objects and practices, we are not evaluating. Much like the way english scholars study literature as their texts, we read everything. It is the everyday, the inescapable, the fabric that makes up our day-to-day existence. It is not about being exotic or other, nor is about being cultured, or more educated, or having the right knowledge or reading the right books.
