Glimpses of la flaneuse: women in the city in mrs. dalloway. Usually a male role, but arguable mrs. dalloway is a flaneuse. Pattern of women moving around the city, walking observing (though also male, i. e. peter walsh) The sky-writing scene (e. g. mrs. dempster 2352) shows many women. Dalloway shopping along bond street (2338-2352)[the socialite] of different classes are in and about the city. Interesting images of old women show the city to be primeval fundamental city of freedom. Old woman who sings her ancient song in from of regent s park tube station: Old woman at window: here was one room; there another (2403; cf. Clarissa is living alongside other people in the city. Elizabeth dalloway in the department store (2404) and on the bus [she s boarding a pirate ship](2407). Yes, it was precisely 5 years in the past. Septimus highly sensitised, reacts very strongly to the city.
