Jane eyre is about freedom to a certain extent. Jane is immediately placed outside the family unit from chapter one: literal/physical and emotional imprisonment, rochester tries to control her, birds represent freedom, pictures. Jane always appears to be busting out (cid:498)need to escape(cid:499) Intertext books within books: an isolated bird that can go anywhere but doesn"t, images of the birds speak to jane"s imagination.
