The study of the dual interactions between geography and political; structures as they impact. How spatial patterns of social characteristics affect electoral outcomes and political decisions. How the geographical structure of the election system affects electoral results. Social- spatial. : do people of different social-cultural groups vote differently. Political polarization: reduced exposure to contrary views and less likely to discuss politics with those who have opposing views. Segregation increases political polarization and alter electoral geography of neighbourhood. Political units elect a representative to government; this person should" represent the opinions of the population of the area. Political redistricting: the process of redrawing political boundaries (in an attempt) to insure population homogeneous within each district. In most cases the shape and boundaries of electoral districts are relatively logical. Gerrymandering: the realignment of electoral boundaries to benefit a particular political party.
