GEOG 2OC3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Laurentide Ice Sheet, Pleistocene, Oligocene
Document Summary
Week 4 the human environment part i. Oligocene to the pleistocene from primate ancestors, and slowly started migrating north into europe and asia: by around 18000 years ago, humans had reached the north easternmost area of asia (present day siberia). There is nothing in our history that says we were beaten or chased from anywhere else, and we didn"t chase anyone away to get here. Americans were of asian ancestry who live in and migrated up through siberia. These people still lived as hunter- gatherers and likely migrated into what is now alaska by following herds of caribou or other game animals. It must have been thousands of years for these people to slowly cross the bering land bridge and colonize north. Influences of the laurentide ice sheet: still in existence during this period, most likely influenced the migration patterns of humans across the landscape.
