The poorest peasants rise up, but they are not the ones to start the revolution. They needed leaders, media and resources to organize the revolution. The revolution starts with the bankruptcy of the french king. ref. Economic freedoms: rights to be treated equally no matter where is your place in the society. Political legitimacy through: liberty also meant that peasants needed some representation in the government. Equality in the beginning of the revolution: civil rights. Nobles resist and decide to take some power from the king. 1788 louis 16th facing financial catastrophe, he is trying to raise revenue for the government to pay off the depts. He notifies the nobles and asks to help by paying more taxes. in spring 1789 the meeting of the estates generals, form of the government where all stats are represented. King hopes to use clergy and third estate against the nobles.
