Italy, had only been unified in the 1860s, they were dominated by corrupt political leaders. Italy not completely economically industrialized: by 1914 italy entered war with the promise that they would get more territory by the. Entente powers the paris settlement did not grant them what they wanted led to resentment democratic system began to be questioned. Left: socialism in the north began to gain popularity in northern italy, who encouraged workers to join strikes and political demonstrations for better working conditions which scared business owners. Right (fascism): new radical national groups promised to crush socialism and change the democratic italy into a new authoritarian strong country. Result: after 6 years of violence, fascism won. There were major strikes in the 1920s and took over many towns in north of italy. There were no huge bolshevik movements however because there was no land reforms promises to appeal to the peasants as it did in russia.
