Feb 9th 2016- lecture 6: narrative and identity. Identity is our sense of self (beliefs, qualities, roles) that differentiate us from others. Both personal and social in nature, individual and group identities. Each person has their own personality/identity: social in nature: social identity. Our identities are formed in relationship both to the environment but also carry meaning to the environment= how people understand us. = how we see people"s identity isn"t the same as how they see themselves. = personal & social: can belong to one person or can be collective or a group identity. Shapes how we act and how we see the world. Multiple structures of identities: structures(race, ethnicity, gender, class, occupation,)= we all have multiple structures that create our personal self. Bodily experience forms a central component of identity. (some say it is the central pillar to identity)= intrinsic to us & stays with us for a long time.
