Participants are lay persons and non professionals, non specialists. Illness is first defined here and health care activities are initiated here. Other choices available, namely folk and professional practitioners anchored in the cognitive and value orientations of the popular culture. Popular sector decides if it"s going to participate in either of the other two sectors.
