Three categories - age, period, and cohort effects (sometimes called apc effects) *on. Midterm: age effects occur due to physical decline. Ex. movement and slowness, loss of hearing, thinning of skin, vision changes. Hard time using technology (computers) - could not see arrow on screen, mouse dif culties: period or environmental effects occur due to the time of measurement. Not buying computers in 1990"s - had huge recession and couldn"t afford: cohort effects relate to the time of a person"s birth. In general, older population did not grow up with much technology. Studies people from many age groups at one point in time. Looks at a single group of people at two or more points in time (ex. to study effects of exercise on aging over time) Measures age changes (age effects) although in uenced by period effects. Canadian longitudinal study of aging (clsa) - following canadian"s for twenty years (physically, mentally, support networks, etc. )
