HLTHAGE 1BB3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Royal Institute Of Technology, Ageism, Dementia
Document Summary
Some women get hair dye to look younger. Mens hair tends to thin, often don"t dye their hair (grey hair=wisdom, more socially acceptable than women) Tend to have walkers, wheelchairs, etc (stray away from these oftentimes cause its an age marker feel they are depending on something, rather than realizing the fact that its making them independent) How they spend money (people who have lived through the depression might be less trusting towards the banks) Spend very little (know what its like to own nothing, fear of losing everything again) Older people are always learning (the younger older people are the greatest spenders on computers/technology) Some splurge because they know what its like to have nothing. Theory that older people may be more text based (reading rather than movies) Theory that all older people are nice, are dependent/helpless (influences our behaviour/reactions to them) Over-help, or talk down to older people (might talk to older people louder)
