Allots a great deal of control and power to physicians. Provision of health care revolves around physicians (e. g. , drugs, hospitals) Age is considered something that degenerates the body. Medical model has been used to design health care model in canada. The diseased body is considered to be deviant. Does not recognize that chronic illnesses have multiple etiological factors and thus no cure : ignores frailty. Privileges the expertise of the physician and down plays the skills of other types of professionals. Does not recognize that the causes of disease have social origins. Sees medical care as only one part of a complete health care system. Sees personal and family counseling/home care/adult day-care programs as part of health system. Needs are more complex need care plan.
