There are three broad sections toward gerontology curriculum: biomedicine, psychological studies and socioeconomic environmental studies. Biomedicine: focuses on looks at the changes in physiology and health that come with age. Psychological studies: examines the changes that take place within individuals and between individuals and groups. Socioeconomic environmental studies: concentrates on the effects of aging on social structures such as health care and education, also the effects of social structures on the aging individual and includes the study of income policies. Social gerontology includes psychosocial, socioeconomic environmental studies and practice related research. Social gerontology often takes interest in physical and health care changes that come with age. Theory creates a structure that explains why things happen the way they do. Describes how society operate and what society is made of. Most theories come from sociology and are used by gerontologists. Offers explanations about the relationship between individual people and social stuff.
