Disorders related to addiction include substance use, gambling, gaming: conflict between immediate pleasure, long term harm, not about quantity of use but consequences. Other people reject the idea that it"s a disease: individuals making poor choices. When we decide that someone has an addiction its about what happens to them because of this use: consequences, not about quantity of use but consequences, withdrawal, recurrent social or interpersonal problems, failed attempts to quit/slow down. Why gambling specifically: religious norms engrained in society, that frowns upon gambling. Where"s caffeine: people can use caffeine in such a way that they have withdrawn, used as an explanation of personal problems, so prevalent, don"t think of it. Internet gaming addiction doesn"t include porn, social media, phone use. Why: social context, effects young men who are trying to complete school or get job. Some estimates suhhest that one in ten people could be diagnosed with a personality disorder, others guess higher.
