Placing each in a new category identifies them as different entitles. Are these disorders discrete entities or are they similar. We usually define them as completely distinct but, we should think more about it. Ptsd and ocd often result from traumatic events or episodes, compulsions often follow trauma. Ptsd gets its own chapter in dsm 5. People who are victims of violence, accidents, are likely candidates. The dsm describes ptsd as having a cause. We usually don"t agree on causes, so the dsm doesn"t bring it up for other disorders but here they do.
