Introducing culture: culture: collective, common ways of doing, being, and understanding that are transmitted from one group member to another. Instead involves the occupation of space: any one person is involved in more than one culture, e. g. Healthcare workers belong to a culture: common ways of doing, being and understanding, culture among nurses or physicians, patients belong to their own cultures. Culture as a social determinant: a social determinant is a social factor that predisposes a person to illness, culture relates to concepts important for mental disorder, emotionality, relationships. Impacts both likelihood of a person feeling/behaving a certain way, but also whether their feelings/behaviours are seen as deviant: narcissistic pd or anti-social pd are not common in collectivist cultures, e. g. Ideals of beauty might shape how a person feels about their body: one factor to eating disorders is how some relates to societal ideals, culture structures how we relate to others, migration.
