Psychopharmacology as a big business: driven by private companies, not a public research institution, on back of ssri boom, antidepressants and anti-psychotics pulled in and billion annually. Basic principles: pharmaceutical companies compete against each other, their common interests, greater number of mental disorders, maximizing the rate of mental disorders. Someone who sells disease: about expanding boundaries of treatable mental illness to expand market for new products, expands existing definitions and to an extent makes new ones. Social construction of illness has become a corporate construction of disease.
