Guest Lecture - Breast Cancer
•Nurse practitioner - RN with a further education to be able to diagnose, prescribe and order

Patient
•71 years of age
•Too busy taking care of business to realize the signs that were obvious
•Two spots that needed biopsy to see if they were cancer
•Did’t tell family do to not wanting to worry them
•Had never met the doctor, just nurse practitioner
•Left hospital day of surgery
•During surgery they removed all cancer tissue
•Treatment options; hormonal, chemo, and …
•18 treatments over 3 weeks
•Not eating enough after chemo treatment
•Trouble sleeping and heart burn
•Weak legs
•Low blood pressure, fever and rapid heart beat
•Didn't find it as traumatic loosing her hair, chose to shave it as it annoyed her that it was
falling out
•Didn't wear a wig
•Never cried about cancer but cries every time she talks about sisters death
