Reflection 3
Last week’s class consisted of a group activity where we actually played
different roles to exercise leadership and practice in what the setting would be
interacting with the government. My role was to be the environmentalist with 6
others. The goal was to make sure no damages were being made to the
environment with the installation of wind turbines. As a group, the consensus was
made to protect the birds and bats that fly into these turbines and causing their
death. Even though wind turbines are good for the environment, but we
concluded that it’s not a good idea to fix one thing by damaging or risking the
other. So, at the end of the discussion, each group had its own points that they
placed to the government to give the final decision. At our table, we had one
representative from each group and the government representative came to a
final conclusion. It was decided that the turbines would be placed 5000
kilometers away from the city and to implement more solar panels as well. There
were a variety of different decisions at other tables that also made sense. In my
opinion, this was a great exercise to get a feel of what representatives actually
do. I liked how it was grouped by category first, then merged with the other
groups to make the decision.
