Schizophrenia is not multiple personality disorder: also known as dissociative identity disorder, extremely rare. Mental state characterized by extreme disturbances in thought. Furthest end of mental disorder spectrum: anxiety on the other end. Ex, schizophrenia, depression with psychotic features, bipolar, schizoaffective disorder, delusional disorder: how to draw line between disorders, often share symptoms. Schizophrenia society of ontario: schizophrenia is a disease of the brain. Alters how people perceive the world and how they feel and behave. Hallucinations: false sensory experiences that are not caused by actual stimuli, most commonly auditory (running commentary, instructions, two voices fighting, degradation), usually frightening to the person but can occasionally be comforting. Delusions: beliefs that are held despite their improbable (impossible) nature, maintained even when demonstrated to be clearly false, previously defined as fixed false beliefs based on an incorrect interpretation of reality. Not all beliefs are false sometimes your wife really is cheating on you.
