Online discussions: 10: 4 questions, 200 words each, due last day of lecture. Final exam: 33: multiple choice & long answer - cumulative, lectures + readings. Addiction as vice: excessive substance use is viewed as irresponsible or evil, transgression of social/moral norms. Challenging addiction as vice: both biological and social sciences question how individuals make decisions, legal crackdowns: Clog up courts, overfill prisons, cost taxpayers. After consistent usage, small doses just don"t do it anymore: withdrawal. Even if an addict tries to stop, they are hit with withdrawal symptoms. Physically ill because the body is used to it.
