Document Summary

Biopsychosocial perspective & cognitive behavioural model- september 12th. Lecture objective: describe the components, strengths, and challenges of the biopsychosocial model; define the elements, principles, and therapy techniques of cognitive behavioural model, and be able to apply it to a case study. Opposite to the biomedical model believes you can still be healthy with a disease. Easy to understand; all factors work together to influence health and development. Combines behavioural model (learned behaviour) and cognitive model (alters thoughts about previous events and how that impacts you emotionally) Multiple and reciprocal interactions among your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Entry level for intervention is changing thoughts and behaviours (because thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are all interconnected and influential to each other) Contributions of thoughts and beliefs to maladaptive behaviours and negative emotions. Intervene at the cognitive or behavioural level because changing feelings is too difficult. Change acquisition and performance of behaviours in these ways: attention/focus, expectations, internalized self-governing rules, beliefs about performance standards.
