If living area are uncluttered, it is only because of the interventions of third parties (e. g. , family members, cleaners, authorities) This is the one disorder that clutters the home and makes the home unsafe for the individual to live in. Sometimes they need the items, but often times, it"s beyond the point that they need the items and space for the items because most of the time they won"t need the item or have the space for the item. Specify the person"s level of insight (good, fair, poor, or absent/delusional: some people don"t see their hoarding as a problem, keep the item to sell them down the road, often times they are not aware. Severity related to age: clinical attention to it, it would be in "crisis mode" Syndrome vs disorder: new diagnosis, compulsive hoarding, past literature on hoarding would see syndrome not a diagnosis.
