Document Summary
3 types of muscles: responsible for movement, stabilization, storing and moving substances, generating heat, di er in morphology, body location, function, method of activation. Myosin (thick filament: bind actin on thin laments, atpase harnesses atp and muscle contracts by pulling thin lament across, will always bind to actin when available. Details of cross bridge cycling: rigor mortis - absence of atp to release cross bridge. Excitation-contraction coupling: electrical signal (excitation) from brain along motor neuron tells a muscle to move (contraction, coupling ap with ability to contract muscle. Mechanical events: delay between in ux and reuptake of ca2+ causes a break between contractions referred to as twitch contractions, twitch contractions are rarely used. Slow oxidative: small diameter, rich blood supply, aerobic respiration, posture and endurance, fatigue resistant. Fast oxidative-glycolytic: intermediate diameter, rich blood supply, aerobic and anaerobic respiration, walking and sprinting. Fast glycolytic: large diameter, few capillaries, anaerobic respiration, power movements, quickly fatigue.
