HTHSCI 1H06 Lecture 2: Lecture 2- Homeostasis
Document Summary
The envelope of internal conditions which allows us to live. Bp, heart reg. kindney"s, every part of the body works together to form a system. External perturbations in homeostasis = ext. temp change. Internal perturbations in homeostasis = sugar in food consumed , byproudcts of metabol. Autonomic nervous system = used in whole process. Cells and organs participate homeostasis and autonomic nervous system. Animals, humans maintain dynamic balance (homeostasis) in every aspect of life. Detetcor/ receptor- detect change in variable from set point. Stimulus- movement of the system away from set pt. Control center- figure out what to do when stimulus is detected. Effector- move variable back to normal, deprives system of stimulus and terminated feedback loop. Without carry of oxygen, homeos. cant stay in range of condition for homeostatic balance. Homeostatic reg. of blood glucose by neg. feedback- Usual normal body range 36 degrees c- 38. 41-44 degrees = temp. reg. impaired (upper limit of survival)
