HTHSCI 1LL3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: G Cell, Greater Omentum, Digestion
Document Summary
Basic plan of the gi tract - this is consistent along the gi tract with some small alterations. There are 4 layers (from superficial to deep, where superficial is closest to lumen): mucosa. Innermost and consists of epithelium in contact with the outside world. Has lamina propria to glue epithelium to underlying sm aka muscular mucosa. There will be different folds in the different parts of the gi tract. Epithelium: most superficial (closest to lumen), can be different in the diff components of the gi tract. Lamina propria: ct that helps to glue the epithelium down to the deeper layers of the gi wall. Muscularis mucosa: thin layer of smooth muscle that helps to throw the overlying epithelium into folds: submucosa. Contains connective tissue (ct), nerves and blood vessels to service the overlying epithelium and glands to secrete mucous and enzymes to dump into alimentary canal to lubricate food.
