Icp represents the pressure exerted by the essentially incompressible tissue and fluid volumes of the three compartments contained within the rigid confines of the skull- the brain tissue and interstitial fluid (80%), the blood (10%), and the csf (10%) Causes: edema, tumor growth, excessive csf, hemorrhage. A change in one component must be balanced by an almost equal and opposite effect in one or both of the remaining components. Fluid in the csf compartments is most easily displaced. Neuro disorders: cerebrovascular disorders abi, ich, sah. Symptoms can come back if proper rest not taken. Bleeding into the subarachnoid space caused by a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. Can occur in any lobe of the brain, most common in frontal or temporal r/t bony.
