Document Summary

Edema: in the capillary bed, we have the part of the capillary that is coming from the arterial system where the pressure is higher and you get fluid forced out into the tissues. Down at the venous end, you get the lower pressure are and if there is sufficient albumin and solutes then the fluid is moving back into the vessel. When there is not sufficient protein, the fluid does not move back into the vessel so you get pooling of fluids. Albumin makes up 80% of the oncotic pressure in our blood. Albumin is made in our liver and if we don"t have raw materials of protein in the diet then it can"t be made and we have the low amounts in our blood. There are a number of essential and non-essential amino acids and we don"t need to memorize these. The essential amino acids have to be taken in the diet.
