KINESIOL 1C03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Platelet, Young Life, Framingham Heart Study
Document Summary
Loss/impairment of bodily function: resulting from injury or death of brain cells, after insufficient blood supply. A stroke results from hypoxia caused by ischemia: hypoxia inadequate oxygen supply. Weakness: sudden loss of strength, sudden numbness in face, arm or leg. Trouble speaking: sudden difficulty speaking, or understanding or sudden confusion. Vision problems: sudden trouble with vision. Headache: sudden severe and unusual headache. Interruption of blood flow to the brain due to a blood clot: atherosclerosis is normally involved, clots can either be thrombotic or embolic. Blood clot that forms in an artery directly leading to the brain. When a clot develops elsewhere in the body: travels through the blood stream to the brain. Caused by uncontrolled bleeding in the brain: the bleeding interrupts normal blood flow, flooding of the blood into the brain kills the brain cells. Subarachnoid hemorrhage: uncontrolled bleeding on the surface of the brain. Intracerebral hemorrhage: when an artery deep in the brain ruptures.
