KINESIOL 2CC3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Nadh Dehydrogenase, Glycolysis, Citric Acid Cycle
Document Summary
Complete breakdown cho, fats, aas to co2 and h20. >35 units of atp formed per unit of substrate. Inner membrane: non-permeable, allows o2 processes to occur. Ect: protein structure in membrane, like a channel for things to move through. Oxidaion of acetyl coa (kreb"s cycle: coenzymes are reduced. Formaion of atp (etc: coenzymes are oxidized. Lipid, cho and protein all make up acetyl coa. Acetyl coa goes into the kreb"s cycle by combining with oaa to form citrate. Nadh and fadh enter the electron transport chain to become nad and fad: these electrons donated drive the processes, and creates atp. Adp becomes atp and 02 becomes h20 in etc. Limits: o2 availability, build-up of adp (signals to turn on/speed up) Pyruvate dehydrogenase: highly regulated enzyme moving h+ around, pyruvate (3c) + nad acetyl coa (2c) + co2 + nadh, nadh is reduced, glucose (6c) gives 2 pyruvate.
