KINESIOL 2E03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: External Obturator Muscle, Obturator Nerve, Rectus Femoris Muscle
Document Summary
Cord branches off as it descends down the vertebral column as spinal nerves break off. Each spinal nerve joins together with other spinal nerves through a variety of plexi to form peripheral nerves (femoral, obturator, sciatic) Every muscle belongs to a compartment and generally each compartment has its own nerve. Spinal nerves leave vertebral column via intervertebral foramen: one on each side of the vertebra. L1 nerve root is going to exit between l1 and l2; l2 nerve exits in the space between l2 and l3. Smaller holes in sacrum that allow (sacral foramena) sacral nerves to exit (s1-s3 are significant) As a nerve passes by a structure, it usually innervates it. Femoral nerve tracks down through front of hip innervates hip flexors. L2-s3 most significant for muscles covered so far. Nerve in l2,3,4,5,s1,2,3 high spectrum of nerves, innervates higher structures. Lower spectrum of nerves innervate lower structures of body.
