KINESIOL 2Y03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Cardiac Muscle, Denticulate Ligaments, Dorsal Root Of Spinal Nerve
Document Summary
Spinal cord is comprised of nervous tissue (the pink line) Part of the cns and connects the brain to the pns. Vertebrae are stacked on top of each other to create the vertebrae column. Each individual vertebrae have an opening called the vertebral foreman which is a hole where these spinal processes are located. These holes create a canal, this canal is called the vertebral canal. Each curve of the spinal cord have its own name. The first curve is called the cervical region. Thoracic region, lumbar region, and sacral and coccygeal regions. The vertebral canal is much longer than the actual spinal cord itself. There is a different speed of growth during development, the spinal cord stops growing till 5yrs old, while the canal grows till the start of adulthood. Communication link between the brain and the pns (below the head) 2 main jobs: integrate information and produce responses.
