Women"s" bodies (cid:883)95(cid:882)"s wanted voluptuous look advertised ways to gain weight. Body image problems are so pervasive they have become normalized therapy. At the extremes of eating and exercise disorders, the effects are tragic: they are succeeding in their goal so it"s difficult to treat anorexia with (psychological disorders rarely viewed as a cultural disorder) Most of us exist on continuum of lesser or greater manifestation of concern: these disorders are most commonly framed as psychopathological for the size of our body. African american girls less concerned about their bodies than white american girls. These disorders were not known 100 years ago not identified as a serious problem so their emergence must be associated with a change in culture. Men"s and women"s bodies are subjected to power in different ways. The body is a subject of political power or power relations: more powerful for women than men.
