Females sometimes reject the word while at the same time embracing feminism. Feminist a dirty word: hand-wringing about young women not embracing feminism, female celebrities who reject the word patti smith, drew barrymore, bjork, women who you think embody feminism actually reject the world. Feminism and other isms: first wave of feminism was predominantly white professional highly-educated women (acting for themselves, second wave broadened to include all kinds of women, feminism is the political theory and practice to free all women: 1st stage: people look at you (romantic, attractive, young), 2nd stage (people look around you, you still exist), 3rd stage (people look straight through you) Essentialism : characteristics of people are largely similar in all human cultures and historical periods they are significantly influenced by biological factors, theorists around learned gender: will point to matriarchal cultures, femininity is innate or essential .
