KINESIOL 1A03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Internal Capsule, Central Canal, Precentral Gyrus
Document Summary
Brain part of the cns contained in cranial cavity. Brainstem connects spinal cord to brain: doesn"t require thought, cerebrum doesn"t need to make decision. Integration of reflexes necessary for survival: reflexes without higher order processing, there is just a response, 4 main regions. Relay center for nerves coming in and out. Cerebellum involved in control of locomotion, balance, posture. Not involved in initiating motor control of skeletal muscle. Judges/referees movement to make them smooth and coordinated. I. e. muscles in neck and mouth that allow enunciation: baby vs. adult. Coordinate different contractions to form smooth motions: when learning new tasks, walking requires a lot of sensory information. Cant see unless cut the brain in half. Relay center for sensory information: decide which is relevant information and filters it, hypothalamus: connection between nervous and endocrine system. Access memories, reason and thought, and decide appropriate motor response. Relays sensory and motor impulses between parts of brain and spinal cord.
