KINESIOL 1A03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 29: Phagolysosome, Extracellular Fluid, Myasthenia Gravis
Document Summary
The lymphatic system & lymphoid organs and tissues. Lymphatic system: consists of 3 parts, network of lymphatic vessels (lymphatics) lymph lymph nodes. Functions returns interstitial fluid and leaked plasma proteins back to blood: once interstitial fluid enters lymphatics, its called lymph lymphoid organs and tissues, provide structural basis of immune system. Lymphoid cells lymphoid cells consist of: immune system cells found in lymphoid tissue: supporting cells that form lymphoid tissue structures. Supporting lymphoid cells reticular cells: produce reticular fibers called stroma in lymphoid organs: stroma: network-like support that acts as scaffolding for immune cells. Functions: cleansing lymph: act as lymph filters , macrophages remove and destroy microorganisms/debris that enter lymph, prevent unwanted substances from being delivered to blood immune system activation: offer place for lymphocytes to become activated & mount attack against antigen. Structure: vary in shape and size, but most are bean shaped, small, less than 2. 5 cm (~1 inch) two histologically distinct regions of node.
