Document Summary

Cell body in either in the motor nuclei of the cranial nerves or the anterior horn of the spinal cord. Causes an excitatory response send an ap muscle contraction. Preganglionic neuron- cell body either in the autonomic nuclei of the cranial nerves or in the lateral horn of the spinal cord. Postganglionic neuron, extends from the synapse to the target tissue. Postganglionic axon (sympathetic nerve) leaves the chain ganglion and goes directly to the target tissue. Usually found in the thoracic region: enters into the sympathetic chain ganglion and leaves without synapsing (called the splanchnic nerve) and travels to the collateral ganglion and synapses with the postganglionic axon. Has cell bodies of the parasympathetic neurons associated with the nuclei of cranial nerves 3, 7, 9, 10 (oculomotor, facial, glossopharyngeal, vagus) Has cell bodies in the lateral grey region of the sacral region (s2-s4) that form the pelvic nerves.
