A part of the cns that is contained in cranial cavity: the cranial cavity is the portion of the skull that has the cranium (back part of skull) Connects the spinal cord to the brain. It is the relay between the spinal cord and the cerebrum. Carries axons from the spinal cord to the brain: this is where synapses with other parts of the brain are found. It is small and only consists of 10% of brain mass. It contains 50% of neurons in the brain: therefore it has a lot of synapses. It coordinates balance and skilled movements: constantly receives sensory information. Located deep in the brain: has 4 main components: thalamus, subthalamus, epithalamus, hypothalamus. The grey matter of the brain: the largest part of the brain, has a lot of neurons. The bone at the back of the skull.
