Acini- exocrine gland (secrete products into ducts or cavities/surface) Secrete pancreatic juice to aid in digestion. Islets within the acini cell composed of 4 cell types. Glucagon secreted when blood glucose levels are low. Insulin secreted when blood glucose levels are high. Somatostatin acts to inhibit glucagon and insulin secretion. In response to meal inc blood glucose cons insulin released into blood binds to receptor signalling cascade of effects glut4 to move out to membrane which allows glucose to enter the membrane. Conc up secretion of insulin from pancreas sensed by pancreatic islets secretion of gastrin can allow cause pancreas to release insulin. 3 levels of regulation to secrete insulin. Inc in storage of carbs in the form of glycogen and inc in triglycerides synthesis. Dec in blood glucose no insulin release (glucagon released) no activity. Excess glucose converted to adipose within the intestines (lack of stimulus to release insulin from the pancreas) dec uptake of glucose.
