Document Summary

Lecture 10 organization + cells of nervous system. Neuroglia (glial cells: non neural cells, cannot receive or send an action potential, supports and protects neurons, found in both the cns and pns. In the trigger zone is where we would create the action potential: axon branches into axon terminals. Synaptic end blub or presynaptic terminal: enlarged regions at the end of axon terminals. 2: one single schwann cell but will run the entire length of the axon, node of ranvier. In between of the cells, we have an exposed region that is unmyelinated. Neuron structure: dendrites come into contact with the axon terminals of other neurons. Start of the axon initial segment: diameter of axon is constant, but length can vary from mm up to 1m, different neurons may have different diameters. Axonal transport: axons create vesicles in presynaptic terminal or store them there.
