The basic unit that we talk about is local organizations. Most of the union members experience will be with the local organizations. This is connected to ideals of democracy. The law allows for all these different types to function. Types: workplace-based: this is the majority of unions. You drive by the ford plant you see the factory and all the unions in the factory are in the union. They can be big or small, they are not all the same size. The wpb model rejects an older based model (trade unions: trade unions (craft): organize each trade and try to control the trade. In this case in a trade or crafts model you organize all the workers in one trade based on what they do rather than where they are. This means that in one big work site you can have people from different unions working there at once.
