Social democracy is very flexible, it takes different forms in different places, and is very mixed, the movements tend to be mixed, making it controversial to discuss. The ccf was started in 1982, in a convention in edmonton, but took off in 1983 af- ter the regina convention. Its founding document is called the regina manifesto. They want to be a big tent; stand for a lot of things. The european parties, which are older, have clear and formal ties to the labour movement, in places like britain, germany, france and holland. These countries all see strong labour movements and later, social parties emerge. Britain: labour, france & holland: socialist, germany: sdp social democratic. The belief was the the ccf would form a bond with the labour movement, like the. The party is socialist and they do believe in replacing capitalism with socialism.
