Observe how people interact in everyday or unique social settings: meanings are based on interaction. Observe behaviour that is not obvious and of which we may not be aware. Ethnographies are conducted in a social setting: issue of accessibility. Observation limitations: not all settings can be observed, not all interactions in a setting can be observed, not all interactions can be observed all the time. Strategies are required prior to entering a speci c eld. Various levels of observation: describe the location. Write down speci c quotes and phrases that capture activities.
