Winnipeg general strike: build up: local problems, strike committee rule, employer counter-offensive. Citizens ctte of 1,000: sympathy strikes, june 21, 1919, collapse. Growing amounts of labour radicalism in the west. By end of war, these tensions are way in the open. As the war ends, things don"t get better. United farmers of ontario late 1918-1919 more immigrants more unemployment. In ontario, 1919 provincial election, the ufo-ilp party won: form a coalition, beat the conservatives. Independent labour party: got lots of support. They are moderate left government: make uni education cheaper, started algonquin park (environmentally minded, health and safety regulations. Making it easier for workers to say no to danger work. Levels of labour unrest go up dramatically in the west: major number of strikers. March 1919, western radicals start western labour convention: break away from tlc (in afl) to form industrial unions and plan a general strike, start to plan for breakaway, general strike.
