It is a social category based on a social relation to wealth, power and the means of production. You can not discuss race without talking about class and gender. Racialized workers are a large percentage of the working class (structural racism) Don"t essentialize race racialized groups have internal class conflicts. Labour market segmentation = structural racism, hiring practices, employers" expectations and social segregation. Part of this is explained by historical lms. Also explained by structural racism in regards to education, employers" expectations, geography and barriers to advancement. Neoliberalism internationalized the production chains and created a larger global workforce. The result was the destruction of many more industries in developing nations and an upheaval of the global labour market. Pull factors = family, economic opportunity, etc. The push/pull factor of the neoliberal policies pursued by canada, the us have created the conditions for mass migration. The canadian state should be understood as a white settler state.
