Gender: the socially constructed and ascribed meaning and characteristics applied to people based on their biological sex. Gender division of labour: the assignment of jobs (and social roles more generally) on the basis of someone"s gender. Based on the assumption that mens and women are physically and psychologically different and are best suited for different kinds of work. Boys don"t cry = taught certain types of emotions (can be angry) Men are responsible for the family (breadwinner norm) Stays home and takes care of the children.
