Smaller media companies rely on larger ones for stories. Advertising is used to target the elite and increase profit for the company. The elites direct impact on the media includes ownership of various media sources. Shape our status in society and the types of jobs we will obtain. Alienation is a feature of our everyday lives. Unconsciously shapes our choices, our visions of life. Ex. going to university is a life choice in hopes of avoiding alienation. Hegemony: the power of the elite over the police, legal system and the power of ideas. We begin to see fulfillment in consumption. We are able to think critically and challenge the logic of things like meritocracy. To understand this we must look at history. History allows us to challenge common sense ideas. How we got to our current conditions. People needed loans to afford to live.
