How does this change a person"s relationship to work. Peasants live on the land and pay taxes to landowners (the nobles) Capitalism is the displacement of people from agriculture. When people are pushed off of the land, they are put into a position where they need to find another way to survive. Capitalism - the rise to wage labour. A process from the 60 & 70th century by which peasants were kicked off their land. They were pushed off their land in many ways. Pushed off the land they leased or owned and the common lands. Common lands - community owned lands, critical to the survival of the poor to meet their ba- sic needs. 30 million people lost their homes 2008-2009. Some refused to sell their bodies for wages and tried to get by through family networks. In 1530 a law passed in england stopped people from begging on the street.
